Test Results
We flew/tested the Rhombus 30 inch Funny Diamond kite in a wind range from about 7 to 10 MPH. In this wind range the kite flew somewhat steady. The enclosed instructions state the wind range to be 4 to 18 MPH. We estimate the recommended/realistic and safe wind range to be about 5 to 12 MPH. FYI: Around 18 MPH sand starts to move/blow across the beach
where we test our kites.
Kite Contents: 30 inch diamond kite with tails, 100 hundred feet of 30 pound test line on a plastic 4 inch yoyo winder, clear vinyl storage bag, instructions.
The dimensions of the kite are 30 inches wide by 30 inches high.
The kite requires no modifications to the bridle. It is a fixed bridle. Assembly takes about a minute. Insert the one-piece fiberglass cross strut and attach the flying line to the bridle. Note: The Rhombus diamond does not use a dihedral (normally found on a traditional diamond kite). The structure of this design allows the one-piece cross strut to move during flight and does not provide the proper sail angle for good flight chararistics.
The instructions are terse, but are clear using both text and a small diagram.
The sail is made of appliqued Spinnaker nylon and is hemmed for durability.
The tails are not hemmed. The pockets for the cross strut fiberglass rod to insert into are reinforced with dacron.
We were very impressed with applique stiching of the sail for a kite in this price range.
The small sail area of this kite lends itself est for visual appeal at a height up to about 75 feet.
Summary: At a club member price of $11.89, the Rhombus 30 inch diamond kite is a fair value for children.
The 30 inch Rombus diamond kite comes in different colors:
blue/green, yellow/orange, yellow/green
