Test Results
We flew/tested the NewTech Starflake kite in a wind range from about 8 to 12 MPH. In this wind range the kite flew steady. The enclosed instructions state the wind range to be 8 to 18 MPH. We estimate the recommended/realistic and safe wind range to be about 8 to 15 MPH. FYI: Around 18 MPH sand starts to move/blow across the beach
where we test our kites.
Kite Contents: Starflake kite, three hundred feet of 30 pound test line on a plastic hand winder, clear vinyl storage bag, nylon storage bag for rods, instructions.
The dimensions of the kite are 69 inches wide x 69 inches high.
The kite requires no modifications to the bridle. It is a fixed bridle. Assembly takes a few minutes with two people. Insert the three fiberglass cross struts and attach the flying line to the bridle. It does take some strength to insert the rods through the sail, nylon loops are attached to the sail to stretch the sail easing assembly. The instructions are clear using both text and diagrams.
The sail made of ripstop nylon and is hemmed for durability. The pockets and openings for the rods to slide through are reinforced with dacron.
The medium sail area of this kite lends itself best for visual appeal at a height up to about 150 feet. The rainbow design is colorful in the sky.
Note: For a kite in this price range we would have like to see NewTech include a nylon storage bag with cord lock.
Summary: At a club member price of $47.89, the NewTech Starflake kite is a good value for adults.
