Test Results

We flew/tested the NewTech Hot Sojourn kite in wind ranges from about 8 to 15 MPH. In this wind range the kite flew fairly steady with a constant swaying to the left and right (we attached a 24 foot fringe tail to the kite which minimized the swaying). This kite is sensitive to small wind changes. It flies best in moderately high winds. The enclosed instructions state the wind range to be 7 to 20 MPH. We estimate the recommended/realistic and safe wind range to be about 8 to 15 MPH. FYI: Around 18 MPH sand starts to move/blow across the beach where we test our kites.

Kite Contents: Sojourn kite, 28 foot tail, three hundred feet of 80 pound test line on a plastic hand winder, a nice ripstop nylon storage bag with velcro at the opening to keep the bag sealed, instructions.

The dimensions of the kite are 47 inches wide x 53 inches high x 16 inches deep, with a 28 foot tail.

The kite requires no modifications to the bridle. It is a fixed bridle. Assembly takes a few minutes to attach the 6 fiberglass rods which form the frame.  A second person helps with assembly.

The sail is made of ripstop nylon.   The sail is hemmed for durability.   We liked that there were metal rings for the rods to pass through around the outside of the kite for additional strength/rigidity.  Keep your eyes on the small plastic end connectors which attach to the king posts.  Several of the connectors fell off during our testing. As noted in the instructions, glue the connectors to the king posts.

The moderate sail area and long tail of this kite lends itself best for visual appeal at a height up to about 150 feet. The Hot Sojourn design is colorful in the sky.

Summary: At a club member price of $63.89, the NewTech Sojourn
kite is a good value for adults.
