Test Results
We first flew/tested the NewTech Prism Butterfly kite in a wind range from about 6 to 13 MPH. In this wind range the kite flew mostly steady with some leaning as the wind speed increased. We estimate the recommended/realistic and safe wind range to be about 6 to 13 MPH.
FYI: Around 18 MPH sand starts to move/blow across the beach where we test our kites.
Kite Contents: 37 inch Butterfly kite, three hundred feet of 30 pound test line on a plastic hand winder, vinyl storage bag.
The dimensions of the kite are 37 inches wide x 24 inches high.
The kite requires no modifications to the bridle. Assembly is quick and easy. NOTE: It is difficult to insert the botton thin flexible fiberglass spreader. You have to bend the spreader almost in half in order to insert it into the kite. While doing so, we snapped/broke the spreader due to low quality fiberglass. Be careful inserting the lower spreader. The instructions are clear using both text and diagrams.
The sail is made of silk-screened ripstop nylon.
The very small sail area of this kite lends itself best for visual appeal at a height up to about 70 feet.
Summary: At a club member price of $12.89, the NewTech 37' Butterfly kite is a fair value for children. Note to NewTech Kites - A better quality fiberglass lower spreader is recommended.
