Test Results
We flew/tested the Premier Giant Flying Fish in a wind range of about 9 to 16 MPH. In this wind range the kite went up easily and flew steady on its own (with no pilot kite). We also attached the Giant Fish to the line as line laundry. As line laundry it flew steady as well. The documentation states the wind range to be 9 to 22 MPH. We estimate the recommended/realistic and safe wind range to be about 9 to 17 MPH (flown on its own). FYI: Around 18 MPH sand starts to move/blow across the beach where we test our kites.
Kite Contents: Giant flying fish, nylon storage bag.
The Giant Flying Fish is 22.5 feet long.
The kite requires no modifications to the bridle. It is a fixed bridle. Assembly is quick and easy.
The recommended flying line is 500 pound test.
The sail is made of taffeta nylon.
Due to the very large sail area of this kite it lends itself best for visual appeal at a height up to 200 feet or more.
It is a safe kite to fly for experienced kite fliers since there are no rods, it is a frameless (soft) kite. Note: The kite can produce moderately to high pull.
Summary: At a club member price of $469.00, the Giant Flying Fish is for experienced kite fliers who have some disposable income and want to make a splash at kite festivals. Not all large soft inflatible figure kite designs fly well on their own or inflate completely. The Flying Fish is one of the exceptions. We recommend this kite for its visual appeal and very good flying characteristics.
There are four different designs:
red, blue, yellow, wavy gradient (new for 2006)
