Test Results
We first flew/tested the Bird of Paradise in somewhat gusty 15 MPH wind. In this wind range the kite flew mostly steady. At wind speeds of about 5 to 13 the kite flew well. The instructions did not state the recommended wind range. We estimate the recommended/realistic and safe wind range to be about 5 to 15 MPH. FYI: Around 18 MPH sand starts to move/blow across the beach where we test our kites.
Kite Contents: Bird of Paradise kite, three hundred feet of 30 pound test line on a plastic hand winder, vinyl storage bag, instructions.
The dimensions of the kite are 70 inches wide x 36 inches high.
The kite requires no modifications to the bridle. It is a fixed bridle. Assembly is quick and easy, just insert the 4 fiberglass struts into the backside rubber molding. The instructions are clear to understand using both text and diagrams.
The sail is made of appliqued ripstop nylon. We were impressed with the stitching and applique for a kite in this low price range. Most of the kite is hemmed for durability. The 2 bottom struts have rubber end caps to prevent them from protruding through the pockets over time and causing splinters in your fingers.
The small sail area of this kite lends itself best for visual appeal at a height of about 100 feet or less. The Bird of Paradise design is very colorful in the sky. It also includes a tri-colored ribbon tail which helps improve the stability of the kite somewhat.
Summary: At a club member price of $19.89, the Premier Bird of Paradise is a good value for children and adults.
