Test Results

We first flew/tested the Tie Dye Butterfly in somewhat gusty 15 MPH wind. In this wind range the kite flew mostly steady.  There is a small tail attachment on the bottom center of the kite. We recommend attaching a 15 to 20 foot long by 2 inch wide tail when flying this kite in wind speeds of 10 to 15 MPH for even better stability.  At wind speeds of about 5 to 13 the kite flew well. The instructions did not state the recommended wind range. We estimate the recommended/realistic and safe wind range to be about 5 to 15 MPH.  FYI: Around 18 MPH sand starts to move/blow across the beach where we test our kites.

The dimensions of the kite are 52 inches wide x 37 inches high.

The kite requires no modifications to the bridle.  It is a fixed bridle.  Assembly is quick and easy,  just insert the 4 struts into the backside dacron reinforced pockets  The instructions are clear to understand using both text and a diagram.

The sail is made of appliqued ripstop nylon.  We were very impressed with the stitching and applique for a kite in this low price range. The top half of the sail is hemmed for durability.  The 4 struts have rubber end caps to prevent them from protruding through the pockets over time and causing splinters in your fingers.

The small sail area of this kite lends itself best for visual appeal at a height of about 100 feet or less. The Tie Dye design is very colorful in the sky.

NOTE: We have one minor comment for Premier Kites. The nylon storage bag does not have string around the opening to securely close/cinch the bag to prevent the struts from sliding out. We recommend Premier Kites loop a piece of string through the opening of all their kite storage bags.

Summary: At a club member price of $19.89, the Premier Butterfly is an excellant value for children and adults.   We recommend this kite based on its quality materials, easy assembly, attractive design, and good flight characteristics.
