Test Results
We flew/tested the Tie Dye and Wavy Gradient Power Sled 10 kite in wind ranges from 7 to 12 MPH wind. In these wind ranges the kite went up easily and flew steady as long as the wind was smooth and steady. In variable wind speeds the kite tends to collapse in the middle and become unstable, sometimes flipping itself inside out (we did not see this behavior on Premier's larger sleds). The tag description states the wind range to be 5 to 20 MPH. We estimate the recommended/realistic and safe wind range to be about 5 to 15 MPH. FYI: Around 18 MPH sand starts to move/blow across the beach where we test our kites.
Kite Contents: Power Sled 10 kite, 500 feet of 30 pound test line on a 4 inch plastic yoyo winder, droque, tag description.
The sail dimensions of the kite are 36 inches wide x 27 inches high with a droque. The matching colored droque also combines as the storage/carry bag. The droque also has two carry handles.
The kite requires no modifications to the bridle. It is a fixed bridle. Assembly is quick and easy. Tie the enclosed line to the bridle. Note: We were very happy to see that Premier attached a metal snap swivel to the kite line so it can be used for other kites.
The sail is made of ripstop nylon. The sail and 2 keels are hemmed for durability. There is a 1 inch dacron edge binding around the 2 cells for additional reinforcement which also improves stability in flight.
The small sail area of this kite lends itself best for visual appeal at a height up to about 100 feet. The Tie Dye and Wavy Gradient designs are very colorful
in the sky.
This kite provides only a very small amount of lift/pull and thus is not suitable for attaching small windsocks and other similar laundry to the flying line.
Note: Remove the plastic description tag from the droque before flying to prevent the tag from acting like a rudder which can cause its line to twist and thus impact flight stability .
It is a safe kite to fly since there are just two flexible fiberglass rods which form the frame. It makes a nice a travel kite which can be placed in your suitcase without fear of breaking the kite.
Summary: At a club member price of $22.89, the Power Sled 10 is an good value for children and adults. If you desire more lift/pull than the Power Sled 10, then try the Power Sled 14. Sleds are one of the most stable kite designs and we recommend this kite.
There are several different Power Sled 10 designs:
rainbow, wavy gradient (new for 2006), tie dye (new for 2006)
