Test Results
We flew/tested the Tie Dye Mini Sled in somewhat gusty 15 MPH wind. In this wind range the kite went up easily but did not fly steady in the turblent strong winds. The instructions do not state a recommended wind range. This kite does not have a droque like the larger Power Sleds, but rather 2 thin and short tails attached to the sides of the kite. Perhaps the kite would have benefited from a droque in this wind range. Due to the small sail size and lack of a droque, we estimate the recommended/realistic and safe wind range to be about 6 to 10 MPH. FYI: Around 18 MPH sand starts to move/blow across the beach where we test our kites.
Note: We have not had the opportunity to fly this kite in lighter winds (less than 15 MPH) yet.
Kite Contents: Min Sled kite, line with hand winder, nylon tails, clear plastic storage bag.
The dimensions of the kite are 6.5 inch wide x 12 inch long with two 47 inch nylon tails.
The kite requires no modifications to the bridle. It is a fixed bridle. Assembly is quick and easy. Tie the enclosed line to the bridle.
The sail is made of ripstop nylon. The sail and tails are not hemmed.
The small sail area of this kite lends itself best for visual appeal at a height of 75 feet or less.
It is a safe kite to fly since there are just two thin flexible fiberglass rods which form the frame. It makes a nice a travel kite which can be placed in your suitcase without fear of breaking the kite.
Summary: At a club member price of $3.89, the Mini Sled is a good value for the parent who wants to give their child a day of fun at the beach or park.
